Our Story
From Apartments to Zoos, Shaffer Stevens & Schaap, PC (S3PC) is a professional corporation specializing in structural engineering for a wide variety of projects. Types of projects include commercial, educational, healthcare, public sector, and renovation+historical restorations of existing buildings. We also perform specialty services such as blast design, progressive collapse prevention, seismic rehabilitation, as well as structure industrial, recreational, and residential facilities.
The firm was founded as Shaffer Engineering, PC in 1993 by our President, Donn R. Shaffer, PE. Donn has been responsible for the design of many projects using various structural systems. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in eight states. Jeffrey W. Stevens, PE joined the firm as its Vice President in 1997. Jeff’s experience includes the design of several large construction projects in various parts of the country. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in four states. The firm changed its name to Shaffer & Stevens, PC in 2000. In 2020, Brad A. Schaap, PE, SE joined the firm as a Vice President. Brad is a licensed professional structural engineer in California, and eight other states. He has performed seismic evaluations of existing buildings and retrofit designs, as well as blast-resistant design, including a near-field nuclear detonation. He has performed numerous Alternate Path analyses on new and existing building structures to prevent Progressive Collapse. The firm changed its name to Shaffer Stevens & Schaap, PC in 2020.
What We Offer
The priorities of the firm are to provide professional engineering services in a timely manner, provide design solutions that are sensitive to the owner’s construction budget, and to develop, with the Architect, design solutions that are sensitive to the facility’s aesthetics and function. We have the specialized knowledge, experience, and versatility to solve any challenge.

Our professionals are licensed in 17 states from Massachusetts to California. We work on private and public projects (VA, DoD, GSA, etc.).

Our professionals have degrees from M.I.T., Washington University in St. Louis, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Nebraska.
